Rumors had been floating around regarding any semblance of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered as a standalone and not attached to that plague called Infinite Warfare, and now we may finally have confirmation on its standalone release.
IGN had recently received word that retailers were already getting their hands on standalone editions of Modern Warfare Remastered, complete with the tagline “Best remaster of the year” as it might actually become a popular trend in gaming soon. Check out the pic below:
While Activision haven’t explicitly stated whether or not the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered would be shipping off any time soon, the fact that retailers have begun stocking up on the game means Activision is ready to do a bit of a surprise release. I think this would be the healthier alternative than building more anticipation for a game already a decade old. With the microtransaction train in full effect too, I really do hope this standalone edition at least veers away from that.
Many reports are already speculating that the game will either be released today or on June 27, 2017, with an admittedly still hefty price tag of $39.99. This is also excluding much of the content that you could find in the base game apparently purposefully removed from the Remastered attached to Infinite Warfare. Yikes.
Nonetheless, it is an exciting time to be a gamer, and we rarely see remastered editions have this much of a selling point to consumers quite like Modern Warfare.
